We are seeking a Lighting Artist to support our upcoming CG feature film!
This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Use creative and technical skills to light shots and sequences, facilitating shots through the lighting and rendering pipeline through to finalizing
- Bring shots from lighting production through to finalising based on project deadlines and milestone goals
- Follow Supervisor and Leads direction to create and design lighting for complex scenes; look developed assets, animation files and FX elements
- Work on the lighting on a shot and composite together assets and renders into a final shot, troubleshooting any issues
- Use appropriate compositing software to create a composite tree that combines the rendered levels and adjust the final composite until it meets the vision of the Directors and Supervisors
- Work closely with the Lighting Leads or other team members to adapt lighting rigs
- Maintain consistency of lighting across all shots
- Communicate updates and track data per Production direction
- Provide solutions to visual problems through existing tools or by supporting new tool development
- Work with the Creative leads to ensure that tools and procedures support the creative process
- Share knowledge with other artists, help onboarding newcomers and mentor less experienced artists
- Design complex lighting setups suitable to be shared across the teams
- Communicate schedule implications of visual requirements
- Provide direct visual support/feedback to artists where required
- Help design, maintain, develop and test workflows and tools
- Work self-sufficiently and in support of the lead
What You’ll Need
- 5 + years’ experience on feature films, TV and/or animated feature in Lighting
- Proficiency demonstrated through past project work and/or reel/portfolio.
- Expert Knowledge in Lighting in a professional 3D software, such Blender, Maya, Houdini. Expertise in a node based software such as Katana is appreciated.
- Advanced knowledge with a compositing software such as Nuke
- Strong understanding of light, colour, contrast, shading, and lighting design
- Deep knowledge of rendering workflows
- Experience with multi-shots workflows
- Completion of degree program or working equivalent
- Advanced level of understanding of composition and colour theory
- Knowledge of the film post production process
- Understanding of the visual requirements for the project, design procedures and techniques.
- Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize assigned tasks
- Attention to design and artistic detail
- Ability to work solo as well as collaboratively within a team environment and when necessary to pass knowledge to other staff members
- Excellence in problem solving and balancing quick turnaround with long term quality and ability to meet deadlines with high quality output
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to efficiently organise and prioritise work across multiple areas and work under pressure
- Willingness to learn and contribute to the success of the team and project
- Ability to take direction and feedback and apply this to assets or shots moving forward; anticipating the supervisors and leads preference
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with all personality types
- Strong attention to detail when performing a quality check before delivery
- Ability to inspire, mentor, and motivate the team.
- Ability to quickly acquire a working understanding of off-the-shelf and proprietary software tools
- Proactive approach to problem solving within parameters
Salary Range
Salary for this full-time position ranges from $78K-$126K AUD depending upon experience.
