Job Description

Lee Bones is looking for an Art Director to oversee and guide the creative direction on Andy Lee’s 2D animated kids series, Do Not Watch This Show.

The series showcases the distinctive art style of illustrator Heath McKenzie (Do Not Open This Book) and in this role you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside Heath and lead a talented team of artists to ensure all visual elements are consistent and true to the show’s unique creative vision.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design team across character, prop, and background design to ensure consistency and quality.
• Create and maintain style guides and visual reference materials for the production.
• Review and provide feedback on designs, storyboards, layouts, and animation to ensure alignment with the established vision.
• Collaborate closely with the Series Director and Producer to balance creative ambition with schedule and scope.
• Oversee visual continuity across all episodes.
• Support problem-solving for design and visual challenges throughout production.
• Mentor and guide artists, fostering a collaborative and creative team environment.
• Liaise with external production partners to ensure adherence to the show’s visual standards.

Skills & Experience
• Proven experience as an Art Director (or Senior Designer/Lead Artist) in 2D animation.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating a distinctive visual style and understanding of storytelling through design.
• Expert knowledge of design principles including composition, colour, lighting, and visual hierarchy.
• Experience creating and working with production pipelines and style guides.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback and direction to a team.
