Trainee Live Captioners

We're looking for people interested in being trained as captioners in our Broadcast Captioning Academy. The Academy is a 6-week training programme.


At Ai-Media, we make content accessible for millions of people all over the world.

From live sport and news to your favourite TV shows, we deliver live captioning and closed captions for customers like Channel Nine and Seven, Facebook, the United Nations, Foxtel and BBC. 

Technology is at the heart of what we do, and recently we partnered with Facebook to launch closed captions on Facebook Live broadcasts - a milestone in making video on Facebook accessible to all members of the community.

We're now looking for people interested in being trained as captioners in our Broadcast Captioning Academy. The Academy is a 6-week training programme that will take you from a beginner to an on-air captioner, broadcasting to millions of viewers all over Australia covering live news, sports and current affairs.

No experience is required however experience editing, transcribing or video editing would be an advantage.  In order to be considered you'll need to display an exceptional command of the English language, both written and verbal, and also have the ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure using the latest captioning technology.

This program is based at our Broadcast Operations office in Frenchs Forest. You will be paid for the training hours completed in the office. Those applicants that graduate will be provided a casual employment contract for on-air broadcast captioning. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone wanting to have an impact on the lives of millions of people.

In the Academy you will have the opportunity to:
  • Learn the process of how live captions are created for all our broadcast customers.
  • Provide live captions to students who use Ai-Media's live captioning service at university as well as professionals who rely on our live captions within workplaces and events.
  • Be trained in the use of captioning technology.
  • Receive hands-on training in the creation of captions for movies, TV shows and other broadcast content.
In order to succeed in this role you should have the following:
  • Interest in the broadcast industry and current affairs
  • Advanced computer skills and ability to multitask
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal
You will need to be available for the full 6 weeks of training commencing on Monday 22 January 2018. Training hours will be from 10am 4pm Monday to Friday.
