NITV Indigenous Cadet 2020

We’re offering a 12 month NITV Journalism Cadetship for 2020 to a person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background who wants to build a career in broadcast journalism.

SBS is the home of NITV, Australia’s dedicated national Indigenous television service. Our purpose is to lead Australia in its exploration of the real multicultural Australia and our diverse worlds: independently, distinctively and courageously.

About the role

This is a great opportunity to join our highly regarded NITV News and Current Affairs team!

The successful candidate will be based in SBS’s News and Current Affairs division in Sydney, with placements on World News’ cross platform news desk (TV, Radio and Online), Melbourne and Canberra bureaus and on current affairs programs - Dateline, Insight and The Feed and within NITV’s Indigenous News and Current Affairs department including NITV News, The Point and Living Black.

As part of a team, the Cadet will be responsible for researching, producing and reporting news and current affairs content to the required SBS standards.

About you

Ideally, you will have had training in television, radio and online journalism, or be able to demonstrate a strong interest in broadcast journalism and have a sound understanding of the social, political and cultural issues affecting Indigenous people in Australia.

Short-listed candidates will be required to provide two referees.

This Cadetship is offered for one year with no guarantee of ongoing employment. However a Cadet who successfully completes the program may be considered for any relevant NITV vacancies in the future.
