Orchestra Operations Manager

Unique opportunity to manage the day-to-day activities of a world famous orchestra.

Due to an internal promotion, one of the world’s finest orchestras has a rare & unique opportunity for an experienced Orchestra Operations Manager to run the day-to day operations of the company’s concert and rehearsal activities. 

Additionally, the OOM will manage the forward planning of activities relating to concert schedules, travel, accommodation, and venue bookings with an emphasis on the efficient and effective service to the company’s internal and external clients.
Working closely with the some of the world’s finest musicians, this is one of Australia’s most varied and fascinating orchestral management positions. You will be responsible for all the logistics and people management associated with the major concerts, which also tour interstate. 

The role requires energy and initiative, excellent organisational and people skills, some technical theatre skills and a broad appreciation and enjoyment of the performing arts.

Key Accountabilities: 
  • Manage all logistical/production requirements of performances and recordings by the Orchestra in conjunction with the Artistic Director and General Manager
  • Produce timely, comprehensive and accurate rehearsal, performance and travel schedules and assist in all aspects of running them
  • Assist in the preparation of performance, touring and project budgets
  • Book travel and accommodation for musicians and international guest artists, including visa preparation as needed
  • Book and contract rehearsal and performance venues and manage all venue requirements and production matters including staging, lighting and sound requirements. Plus manage instrument hire and cartage, staging, keyboard instrument tuning, and ground transport
  • Manage the storage, maintenance, freight and hire of the orchestra’s musical instruments as well as maintain the orchestra’s performance costumes
  • HR functions, ensure employment paperwork is complete and up-to-date, etc.
  • All general divisional reporting. 
Key skills required:
  • Demonstrated experience within a live performance organisation in a similar position such as Stage Manager / Company Manager/ Operations Manager.
  • Min 3-5 years’ experience in an operations / logistics management position
  • Experience dealing with talent
  • Ability to book and manage a touring group
  • High-level organising skill with superior attention to detail
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Possess the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Appreciation of the performing arts
  • Strong relationship management experience
  • Energy and initiative.
