Program Manager - Maternity Cover

The main focus of this role will be to accurately create and implement ‘must see’ programming schedules across NBC Universal's portfolio of channels that achieve the networks ratings and commercial targets.

The ANZ team forms part of the APAC UNI, and is supported both from our Singapore and London offices. 
About the Role: 

The role will work closely with the Marketing, Ad Sales, Finance, Research, On-Air and Operations teams. 
Reporting to the Program Director, the main duties of this role include:  
  • Ensure programming strategies successfully align the channels to their intended brand positioning and core audience, as well as reaching out to attract new viewers
  • Research, source  and preview content with acquisition recommendations to the Program Director  
  • In partnership with the Program Director, liaise with Distributors and Legal negotiating through to contract execution for all deals relating to Universal and Style and Bravo NZ channels,  all US studio contracts , multi territory deals (Australia and Bravo NZ),  and multi-channel deal packages (eg deals covering Style, Universal plus any other STV NBCU channels) 
  • Manage channel acquisition yearly and long range budgets 
  • Analyse ratings on a daily basis to understand channel performance and formulate strategic proposals to increase ratings and market position 
  • Create an annual Programming Plan and monthly Programming Schedules to ensure the look and feel of the channel fits with Programming and Creative strategic direction 
  • Present the plan to key stake holders -  On-Air, Marketing & Ad Sales 
  • Work with Promotions and Research for strategic promotion of the Channel 
  • Liaise with the Ad Sales team to create program sponsorship opportunities around key programming  
  • Ownership of all  Programming and Acquisitions procedures & workflows and management of staff 
  • Managing the programme inventory to maximise usage  
  • Oversee the program classification process and manage classification budget  
  • Manage a team of Programmers and Schedulers to ensure effective and efficient, error free, programming and scheduling of both channels. 
  • Lead, motivate, inspire, and coach a team of programmers in order to achieve the commercial goals of the business and address individual developmental needs. Providing formal and informal feedback throughout the year.
About You

The successful candidate will need:
  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline preferred 
  • 10+ years' television programming experience
  • A proven deep understanding of programming and scheduling with relevant experience in a senior television role
  • A proven track record of ratings and channel positioning success 
  • An intuitive ability to relate to a channel’s core demo and be able to create schedules that meet viewers habits and expectations 
  • A demonstrated deep product knowledge and an understanding of the industry landscape

  • Demonstrated experience in leading a small team in a matrix management organization 
  • Proven experience in creating and implementing processes for multi-territory programming 
  • An understanding of the Australian, NZ and international media landscape with knowledge of the competitive and market environment 
  • Strong leadership and motivation and negotiation skills 
  • Excellent communication, organisation, interpersonal and influencing skills 
  • Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic 
  • A team player able to work through multiple priorities and create support across a diverse team 
  • Structured approach, well-organized individual, able to juggle multiple tasks and flexible enough to adapt to a fast paced and changing environment 
  • A passion for drama and entertainment content.
